Portal

This weekend instead of preparing a seminar I have to present next friday, among other things I played a game called Portal. Portal is a game that came inside a bundle of games called The Orange Box. It is a first-person puzzle game, and it is an amazing game. One of the best, and terrifically funny games I ever played.

In this game you play a female character, who is a test subject inside a science facility runned by a AI called GlaDOS. During the game, the character learns how to use portals to cross various test chambers, and while this happens, GlaDOS makes various comments trying to "help" you with each chamber. The first test chambers are very straightforward, and exist only to teach you the basics of using portals. But they get trickier and trickier until the end of the game. To generate portals you have a Aperture Science Hand-held Portal Device, that can create blue portals or orange portals. Blue and orange portals represent each side of a portal, so if you enter the blue side, you will leave in the orange side, and by placing both portals throughout the chamber you can solve the puzzles. You also have to use some basic laws of physics like momentum conservation to solve some of the puzzles. It took me around 5 or 6 hours to finish the game. It was a very fast game, but an excellent one, and hilarious to say the least.

The Aperture Science Computer, also known as GlaDOS, is one of the best and funniest characters in any game in my humble opinion, and the Weighted Companion Cube will never be forgotten! If you plan to play this game in the near future and do not like spoilers, DO NOT watch the next video. It is the ending song and might spoil your game play. If you do not care, just watch it, and have fun listening to that. It is fun, but will be funnier if you have already played the game. The song is called Still Alive.

Through Fire and Flames

The first time I heard this song was in a Guitar Hero III video, as this is the hardest song to play in that game, and since then I became a fan of Dragonforce. This song is insane!! Pure HEAVY METAL!! Be sure to watch both guitar players playing around 3:30 (simply insane).

Ultimate Musical Geekyness

People know I am a true believer in Rock'n'Roll, but unfortunately I don't know how to play any kind of instrument. The only musical experience I had was playing Guitar Hero. But I really want to learn how to truly play an electric guitar someday.Well... At least, that was what I thought until I have seen the most amazing musical instrument ever built by man... The "Geekiest" Musical Instrument Ever Built...

The path to Heavy Metal...

I gained my first Heavy Metal CD in my 18th birthday. It was a CD called "A Real Dead One", a live album from Iron Maiden. I guess I could not have chosen better than that to start. A live CD from Iron Maiden, with many of its great classics... I arrived at home and put it in the player, and then...

"Woe to you, Oh! Earth and Sea, for the Devil sends the beast with wrath, because he knows the time is short... Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast, for it is a human number, it's number is Six hundred and sixty six."

(Then it began: Dave Murray in one guitar, and Steve Harris in the bass guitar. Bruce Dickinson starts to sing. After a while Nicko McBrain in the drums, and Adrian Smith in the other guitar... and this is The Number of the Beast!!)





After that there was no turning back... I was lost forever, and the iron in my blood turned into iridium instantaneously. Heavy Metal running through my veins forever.

Two weeks later I had already other two Heavy Metal CDs. The second one was from a band called White Zombie, the band does not exist anymore, unfortunately, but until today they are one of my favorite bands. The song that lead me to buy that CD was called "More Human than Human" from the album Astro-Creep 2000, and by that time this music was playing on the radio (the dead, but never forgotten 107.5FM), and being aired on the MTV. And here is the video clip.




My life was already doomed, and there was another song playing in the radio that I needed by any means! It was the first track from the album Ozzmosis recorded by the master Ozzy Osbourne. The song's name is "Perry Mason". And that was my third Heavy Metal CD. (The video is slightly out of synchrony... bah!)




As I told you, it was REALLY impossible to turn back after all that. It was almost 12 years ago, a lot of things changed in my life, but Heavy Metal is a quiescent part of my life since that time, and I am sure it still will be when I reach the 250... And a long time after that, too...

Bom, já que ontem eu postei o video do sujeito jogando "Guitar Hero", hoje eu vou postar os originais do Lynyrd Skynyrd tocando "Free Bird". Eles merecem bem mais que o cara dos 100%, mesmo com todo o respeito que eu tenho pelo cara que conseguiu a façanha.

P.S.: O som não está dos melhores, mas dá pra ter uma boa noção da banda.

P.S.2: Nunca vi tanta mulher num show de Rock!! Putaquepariu!!! :P

Free Bird - 100% on Guitar Hero II

"Free Bird" é uma das músicas mais fodas de todos os tempos na minha opinião, e tem um dos solos de guitarra mais sem-noção de todos os tempos também. Quem já jogou Guitar Hero, sabe que conseguir 100% numa música, mesmo nos modos mais fáceis, não é um feito simples de se conseguir, mas conseguir 100% no modo mais difícil, tocando "Free Bird" do Lynyrd Skynyrd é coisa pra um "Guitar Hero" de verdade! E o que me faz ter mais respeito ainda, por uma banda como Lynyrd Skynyrd, e por todas as bandas e pessoas que tocam e compoem músicas de verdade, é que usando instrumentos de verdade a coisa fica mais complicada ainda.

É por essa e outras que eu amo o bom e velho Rock'n'Roll!!

E esse cara, que conseguiu estes 100%, merece meu respeito também, mesmo que seja apenas jogando um simples jogo de video-game!
